COMMUNICATION AND CHANGE MANAGEMENT

This is Phase 3 of 6 focused on building shared commitment towards asset management excellence in all stakeholders through eye-catching and compelling communications along with change management tools.

Building shared commitment is the glue that keeps everything together.  Without it, any change initiative is doomed.

At the start of this phase, there will be people with different awareness of what good looks like, different desire and commitment to improve asset management, and different knowledge and ability to implement and improve practices.

By the end of this phase, there needs to be a critical mass of people who are engaged and have the desire, knowledge and ability to implement and embed the Asset Management Framework.

The process requires continuous engagement of the stakeholders and individuals effected by the change through great conversations about the benefits the changes will bring to them.  The implementation of a change management and communication strategy is essential.

The key deliverables of strategy include:

  • Routine stakeholder communications at all levels of the business
  • Branding materials in hard and digital formats
  • Change management surveys and impact assessments and action plans to mitigate barriers to implementation
  • Asset Management Forums at appropriate levels of the organisation

What works well is to provide a personal invitation to contribute to the journey.  A company’s strength should relate not only to its physical assets but the quality and dedication of its people. The leaders of the company need to share a sense of pride in the company and an unwavering passion towards excellence in asset management.

The Asset Management Framework and supporting Manuals and Guidelines need to be implemented in order to do the heavy lifting, including fully using the capability of the company’s Computerised Asset Management System, provided it is populated with complete and accurate master data, asset tactics, and operating and maintenance work instructions.

Implementing the Asset Management Framework enables the company to develop and embed high-performance teams, leveraging each team’s collective capacity to produce exceptional results. It also provides each individual the chance to realise their own full potential.
